From July 1 2024, the Australian Federal Government announced a ban on the supply, distribution, and fabrication of engineered stone.
In response, Smartstone launched its innovative Porcelain Benchtop surfaces, the Sintered Collection. If you’re looking for a stone-style surface that’s as refined as it is hardwearing, you’re in the right place. This Australian porcelain benchtop collection beautifully enhances Smartstone’s unrivalled quartz surface offering.
The Sintered Collection is Smartstone’s new surface range built specifically for the Australian market, that elevates the qualities of traditional porcelain to an entirely new level. For those not familiar with sintered stone as a surface material, it is a 100% natural product which, through a highly technological process, fuses raw materials using intense temperatures and extreme pressure.
How? By delivering superior durability, advanced manufacturing capabilities and enhanced natural-stone aesthetics. Smartstone’s Sintered Collection is created using a ‘sintering’ process which replicates millions of years of the earth’s metamorphic processes by combining advanced technology with natural fusion techniques. Intense heat and immense pressure (30,000 tons) bind natural minerals to create an ultra-compact, extra-durable material that delivers exceptional performance, during both the fabrication and installation stages. The result is a permanently hardened, ultra-compact surface that is non-porous, NSF-approved and heat, chemical and stain resistant. This collection of stone comprises of 100% natural materials, including clay, feldspar, talc, and cornish stone to produce a highly durable surface material for indoor and outdoor use.
Its technical performance and refined aesthetic come together in large format 1600mm x 3200mm (jumbo size) panels. The stone’s durability and UV stability make it ideal for outdoor use, as well as the most demanding, high-traffic interior spaces such as porcelain benchtops and kitchen splashbacks, sinks, tables, bathroom vanities and shower walls… the applications are limitless. A major advantage of Smartstone’s Sintered Stone Collection is its slab thickness which can offer an ultra-slim, modern look or can be mitred to create deeper edged profiles or waterfall features. Thinner slabs also allow seamless use across cabinet facades and drawer fronts for a visually uniform result.
